High Places have operated in Peru since 1994. It has been one of our most popular destinations and we have a long established and successful relationship with our trekking agency colleagues in Huaraz and Cusco.
Across the Andes with the Incas! This classic Peru trek captures the colour and vibrancy of the people and landscapes in the heart of the Inca Empire. There is good time in Cusco to acclimatise and absorb the sights and sounds of the Andes – Inca stonework colonial architecture, plazas, markets, street cafes and Andean music. We also hike to the Inca citadel at Pisac and explore the mighty fortress at Ollantaytambo. Don’t underestimate the Inca Trail, only 43km long but with Dead Woman’s Pass at 4198m it requires fitness and stamina. To climb the final stone steps to the ‘Sun Gate’ and see Machu Picchu spread out below will be its own reward. Finally a rollercoaster bus ride across the high altiplano of the Inca Highway to the emerald blue Lake Titicaca, where we visit floating islands, home-stay with local people and visit traditional island weavers.
A tailor made departure ideal for a small group or couple – min. 2 persons. The dates given are a sample only and are ex Cusco – choose your own dates! Option of train to Machu Picchu instead of Inca Trail or other additions, eg Manu Rainforest. Book early – min 6 months ahead – for Inca Trail.
