Cycling in Colourful Rajasthan
Rajasthan is one of India's most fascinating states, renowned for its forts and palaces, desert villages, spice markets and the affection and friendliness of its people. At times the deserved popularity of Rajasthan's key sights leave little room for a sense of adventure. Traveling by cycle is the perfect remedy. As well as some of the big draw cards like Jodhpur, Rankapur and Udaipur, our back-road discovery takes us to remote villages through barren desert and lush oasis where traditional Rajasthani life continues unscathed by the outside world, as it has done for centuries.
We start our journey climbing up to the Aravali Hills, the route then passes through back-country flatlands to the holy town of Pushkar and then on to Jaipur, a town overlooked by the splendid Amber Palace. We take rest stops along the way at the principal attractions as well as at a few places where there is a chance to experience rural Rajasthan firsthand. We also visit Bharatpur National Park and of course the Taj Mahal.
