Trekking in Tibet

The Kangshung Face of Everest

A spectacular trek on the north-east side of Everest to reach the least visited of its base camps situated in the Kangshung valley and dominated by Himalayan giants: Makalu (8475m), Lhotse (8516m), Chomolonzo (7790m) and Everest (8848m).

We begin with a dramatic flight to Lhasa, and spend time acclimatising there before driving across the Tibetan Plateau to reach Everest's north east side. The trekking begins in the monsoon affected Kharta Valley passing through willow groves, juniper and whole hillsides coloured by rhododendron in spring. Our route offers good acclimatisation and provides a pleasantly graduated approach to Everest's Kangshung Basecamp, crossing the Sha-u La (4790m) and reaching high points with unobstructed views of the great peaks including Everest, Lhotse and Makalu.

We return by a different route over Langma La (5240m), hoping for a final panorama before dropping back down to the roadhead. A final night in the constrasting lush greenery of northern Nepal (with sensational bungee jumping option!) breaks the road journey back to Kathmandu.
