Trekking in NepalGokyo and Island PeakThis exciting trip warms up with a trek to Gokyo Valley and an ascent of Gokyo Ri (5350m). Now acclimatised, we head for Island Peak, an accessible peak with a magnificent vantage point for close up views of Everest, Nuptse and the massive south face of Lhotse. From Kathmandu, we fly to Lukla and acclimatisation begins on the walk up to Namche Bazaar. An high trail ascends the steep Gokyo valley to reach its five glacial lakes. The ascent of Gokyo Ri itself reveals first close views of Everest and a magnificent panorama. Walking now towards Ama Dablam, we pass through Khumbu villages with time to visit monasteries before climbing again towards our final challenge. From the summit (6189m), an amphitheatre of peaks surround us including Everest (8848m), the massive South face of Lhotse (8501m), Lhotse Shar (8383m) and Makalu (8463m) in the distance to the east. Although it is possible to climb Island peak in less time, our emphasis on gradual acclimatisation will give you every chance of reaching the summit.
