Trekking in PakistanConcordia & K2 Base CampThis unforgiving classic trek travels along the side of the Baltoro glacier to Concordia and the base camp of K2, second only to Mount Everest. On all sides, vertical towers and pinnacles, shining ice walls and great brooding summits stretch to the horizon creating without doubt the greatest mountain scenery in the world. On leaving Askole, the last village in the Braldu gorge, we are immediately assailed by the savagery of the landscape and the sheer size of the mountains which line our route towards Concordia- "Throne Room of the Gods." Trekking along a relatively good trail our approach follows the route taken by expeditions setting out to scale K2. Concordia, (4,700m) where five glaciers join is an immense sea of ice, boulders and moraine. It is surrounded by eight of the world's highest mountains: Broad Peak; the Gasherbrums; Baltoro Kangri; Hidden Peak; Masherbrum and K2 itself. This is a hard but unforgettable trek, which gives the opportunity to be as physically close to some of the highest mountains in the world as is possible, without actually climbing them! It is too big a trip to have a tight schedule and we have allowed extra days especially at Concordia, giving time to marvel at the enormity of the landscape.
