Sikkim: the High Circuit
A rewarding circular trek following an 'off the beaten track' route with magnificent high-level walking. From Gangtok, the hilltop capital of Sikkim, we follow a high ridgeline leading to the Goeche La (4940m) and a dramatic close encounter with the immense ice cliffs and snow fields of Kanchenjunga (8598m).
Our approach close to the mountainous border of Sikkim and Nepal gradually gains height with panoramic views on all sides. Altitude, cold nights and the remoteness will make greater demands. We reach a high point as we cross the Danphe Bir La 'The Pass of the Pheasant" at 4630m revealing a Himalayan skyline extending as far as the Everest giants. After 8 days trekking we join the regular trail to the Goeche La. Time also at the end for a visit to Darjeeling - tea plantations, the Toy Railway, frenetic markets and memorabilia of the British 'Raj'.
