Andes Amazon Galapagos
Our classic South American experience. Two short treks, one around Cotopaxi volcano and one through high Andean villages, a descent into the steamy headwaters of the Amazon, an 8 day cruise in the Galapago, and a visit to the famous market in the traditional Andean town of Otavalo.
We trek high, across the rolling paramo (grassland) and look for soaring condors beneath the snow-capped cone of the famous Cotopaxi volcano. Our second trek visits traditional Indian settlements and circles a spectacular volcanic crater lake.
A famous train ride now and relaxation time in Baņos before we drop down off the Andes into the dense green canopy of the jungle, the headwaters of the Amazon. We travel by motor dugout down the turbulent Napo River to an Indian village where we spend time absorbing the culture, walking deeper into the forest, riding the river in longboats and living in simple lodges.
A return to Quito now and a flight out to the Galapagos Islands - a small boat, first class comforts and onshore visits each day to view some of the most remarkable birds and reptiles in the world.
Finally no visit to Ecuador is complete without a visit to the hustle and bustle of one of the great street markets of the world - Otavalo!
