Trekking in PeruPeaks of PeruThree incredible weeks of climbing in three different valleys of the Cordillera Blanca. Nothing too hard and an ideal first foray into the greater ranges. With good acclimatisation and hopefully the fine settled weather of the Peruvian Andean summer, we hope to climb five peaks including the easier classics of Pisco (5752m) and Ishinca (5530m). Our first base camp is approached by a short valley trek which will assist acclimatisation. Depending on conditions we have a choice of two ideal training peaks at around 5500m. We also take the opportunity here of practising ropework and basic alpine techniques. After returning to Huaraz for a rest day we travel down the great valley at the foot of the Cordillera Blanca, the Callejon de Huaylas, a short diversion, an accessible base camp and an easy-angled glacial ramp leads to the summit of Pisco (5752m) with sensational close-up views of Huascaran, Peru's highest peak. We then move on to the beautiful Ishinca valley and from a fine base camp attempt first Urus Este (5495m) and finally the south west ridge of Ishinca itself (5530m).
