Chile Treks & Volcanoes

Our popular walking trip to Chile! Day walks in the scenic Chilean Lake District leading to an exciting ascent of the classical conical volcano of Villarrica (2860m), a legendary train journey, two flights along the length of the Andes and spectacular hiking among the framed rock towers and lakes of the Torres del Paine National Park in southern Patagonia.

Heading south from Santiago aboard the famous sleeper train, we combine acclimatisation hiking among the forests and lakes of Araucania where surreal volcanoes rise up dramatically out of the trees. Then we head for Conguillo National Park and walk amongst beautiful lakes set in a bizarre volcanic landscape studded with giant monkey puzzle trees. Continuing south, we climb Villarrica (2865m), whose crater billows clouds of hot steam.

From Puerto Montt we fly to Punta Arenas for a visit to the Torres del Paine National Park rightly regarded as one of the world's prime destinations. We spend five days here, hiking below dramatic towers where glaciers tumble to fill the fantastically clear mountain lakes.
