The Ice Cap Trail
Our uncompromising visit to Argentinian Patagonia which encircles the incredible granite spires of the Fitzroy and Cerro Torre range. Half of this circuit is on the ice cap itself. An exciting new 'warm-up' hike, which passes under the towering Cerro Norte has been researched and added for this year.
Our new 5 day approach hike links the great lakes of Argentino and Viedma, and follows the remote Norte Valley before crossing the Paso Moyano and a boat rendezvous - a natural gateway into the Fitzroy range.
Time to recover in El Chalten before the main circuit which accesses the ice cap via the Marconi Glacier and then travels on the ice around the back of the Cerro Torre spires, a superlative experience. Both crampons and snowshoes may be needed to complete the journey.
At our camp under the west face of legendary Cerro Torre there will be a sensation of isolation and wonder at the sheer rock towers above us and the enormity of the icefield stretching beyond the horizon.
