Patagonia Icecap Trail
Our uncompromising expedition to Argentinian Patagonia where we encircle the incredible granite spires of the Fitzroy and Cerro Torre range - half of the circuit is on the Patagonian ice cap itself.
A ‘warm-up’ hike, passes under the towering Cerro Norte and follows a rough mountain trail linking the great lakes of Argentino and Viedma. It ends in an exciting boat rendezvous to cross Lago Viedma and is a natural gateway into the Fitzroy range.
Time to recover in El Chalten before the main circuit which accesses the ice cap via the Marconi Glacier and then travels on the ice around the back of the Cerro Torre spires, a superlative experience. Both crampons and snowshoes may be needed to complete the journey.
At our camp under the west face of legendary Cerro Torre there will be a sensation of isolation and wonder at the sheer rock towers above us and the enormity of the icefield stretching beyond the horizon.
