Trekking in RomaniaTransylvanian SummitsClassic mountain walking in three contrasting areas of the Carpathian Mountains. Starting in the limestone peaks and wooded valleys of the Bucegi and Piatra Craiului areas, the trip ends with an exciting four day traverse of the Fagaras ridge and ascents of Romania's two highest mountains. We begin in the Bucegi range, climbing its highest peak Mt Omu, (2505m), before descending into the wilder valleys and gorges on the west side to reach the small town of Bran and 'Dracula's castle'. From here we move into a limestone area, Piatra Craiului, dominated by a 10km sharp ridge, requiring a head for heights on a long day's spectacular traverse. Further west are the Fagaras mountains; rocky peaks linked by a fine high ridge. They provide classic mountain days as we walk and scramble from hut to hut. We climb most of the summits including Romania's two highest - Moldoveanu (2544m) and Negoiu (2535m).
