High Andes of Patagonia
With our final trek ending on the Patagonian ice cap itself, our long running and popular visit to ‘the uttermost part of the earth’, is still without equal. We trek and hike in two of the most magnificent mountain areas in the world, around the immense rock towers and icefalls of Paine and Fitzroy. Within the Paine National Park lies some of the wildest, most spectacular scenery in South America. We trek amongst peaks such as the granite towers of Las Torres del Paine, scene of some of the hardest mountaineering in the world. Around them are glaciers, in places flowing down to the sea.
We now move on to the Fitzroy area where the scenery is equally breathtaking. Dwarfed by granite cliffs rising 2600 metres above us we make an eight day trek over glaciers, through valleys and over passes surrounding the magnificent Cerro Torre and Cerro Fitzroy range, finally emerging onto the Patagonian ice cap, the largest continental ice field outside of the Poles.
