Trekking in East AfricaTwin Peaks of AfricaAn opportunity to reach the two highest points in Africa. A traverse of Mount Kenya via the trekker's summit at Point Lenana (4985m), followed by an ascent of Kilimanjaro using the lesser known Rongai route to the highest point on the continent - Uhuru Peak at 5896m. On Mt Kenya we avoid the more popular tourist trails and make a complete west-east traverse of the massif. From the tropics to the tundra and back again in six days. Our ascent is gradual, ensuring good acclimatisation. The highlight is the exhilarating scramble by starlight to Point Lenana in time to see the African dawn and glimpse Kilimanjaro soaring high above the savanna - 300km away. On 'Kili' we ascend by the old but lesser used Rongai route, winding up through forests and giant heather onto the upper mountain. On our summit day, an alpine start and a stiff ascent past enormous ice cliffs reaches Uhuru Peak where we stand higher than anyone else in Africa!
