Bhutan and Sikkim – The Enchanted Kingdoms
Two easy paced and colourful treks with time to appreciate the ancient Buddhist traditions and natural beauty of these adjacent mountain kingdoms. In Sikkim we cross wooded ridges and terraced paddy fields passing high villages and hilltop monasteries with a Himalayan skyline dominated by Kanchenjunga almost always in view.
In Bhutan we follow the Druk Path Trail and camp by high mountain lakes. Its steep mountain sides and remote forested valleys are scattered with holy places of deep mystical importance where the founders of Tibetan Buddhism have left their traces.
This trip, although spanning two independent countries, is a very natural one. Both physically and spiritually Sikkim can be said to resemble Bhutan far more than India to which it has belonged for more than a quarter of a century. A newly introduced flight between Gangtok and Paro will assist the logistics of this Himalayan adventure offering delightful walking with new surprises around every corner.
