Shishapangma Base Camp
After a magnificent flight across the Himalayas we spend time in the fabled city of Lhasa with time to visit some of its treasures including the Potala, Sera Monastery and Barkor Square.
Now acclimatised, we cross the high altitude desert of the Tibetan plateau via the ‘Friendship Highway’ to reach Rongbuk, from where we make the short trip to Everest's North Base Camp.
Moving on, we cross the Himalayan Divide to reach the town of Nyalam where the trek begins. We head for Shishapangma’s South Base Camp, sandwiched between the icy spires and fluted ridges of giant Shishapangma (8012m) and the dramatic steep north east faces of the Jugal Himal, a mere stone’s throw away.
A rarely visited gem, this area is host to an array of steep sided 6-7000m peaks on the border of Nepal and Tibet. The South Base Camp's spectacular situation is a highlight, surrounded by peaks and with scope for higher forays.
