The Cordillera Real Trek
This high level trekking combination captures the best of Bolivia - we acclimate easily on the shores of Lake Titicaca and the Island of the Sun before trekking through the most impressive mountains (6000+m peaks) of the Cordillera Real.
The first part of the trek takes us to Copacabana, an attractive colonial style town on the shores of Lake Titicaca. From here we hike along the peninsula where a boat takes us out to the Island of the Sun, the legendary birthplace of the Incas.
Better acclimatised now, we head up into Bolivia’s great Cordillera Real mountains and follow a trail around the highest peaks in the range, Illampu (6368m) and Ancohuma (6427m). It is a majestic and demanding circuit with high passes, clear blue glacier lakes, breathtaking views and sparse scattered Andean settlements.
