Sikkim at Christmas

A high and rewarding route with magnificent views of Kanchenjunga throughout the entire journey. At Christmas the weather is settled with cold nights and clear skies, and there are few other trekkers on the trail. Our local trekking team are thrilled with our December visit and always a highlight is the sharing of their Tibetan festivities and traditions.

A flight from Calcutta and a day to readjust in Gangtok, the hilltop capital of Sikkim. The trek begins and an ascending traverse takes us through ravine, forest and ridge to the high Tibetan settlement of Tsokha. Beyond, a mountainside clad with rhododendrons and silver fir and above the tree-line the horizon is dominated by Himalayan peaks, Kabru, Tichenkhang, Pandim and of course, Kanchenjunga.

With fitness and good weather the ascent continues towards the Goeche La (4940m) where a dramatic close encounter with the immense ice cliffs and snow fields of Kanchenjunga (8598m) will further add to your breathlessness.
