Treks and Treasures
A remarkable and carefully researched new trip which combines visits to both Shiraz and Isfahan with a 7-8 day trek in the Zagros Mountains. A highlight on trek will be a camp with Bakhtyari nomads during their seasonal migration to cooler altitudes. There is enough time also to visit Persepolis, Imam Square and other sights of old Persia.
With over 30 mountains above 4000m, the Zagros mountains dominate much of central and western Iran yet are seldom visited by trekking groups. In spring the green and fertile approach valleys dramatically contrast with the rock and snow buttresses of the higher peaks. Supported by mules the trekking reaches a high point of 3300m and we pass close to Dena peak one of Zagros' highest.
Finally there is some time in Isfahan, one of the great cities of the Persian empire, with its glimmering blue-tiled mosques and palaces, exquisite bridges, peaceful gardens and vibrant bazaars.

“It was almost an advantage being female, wore a headscarf all of the time and a loose dark shirt thing over my walking clothes, but I could talk to women we met and they were so warm and welcoming. This was a wonderful experience and we would go back again.”

“Iran is a beautiful country with much to offer the trekker.”
