Trekking in Pakistan"...I have to say that Pakistan is a revelation. Simplistic post 9/11 propaganda sought to equate it with terrorism, ...I have found Pakistan to be infinitely more complex and diverse than I had been prepared for. Wilder and more beautiful too. Never once did I feel threatened. Give or take a few cold beers, I leave it with regret" Pakistan is four times the area of Great Britain and one third that of India. The population has recently passed 160 million and with one of the highest birth rates in Asia it is growing fast. The Indus (the third largest river in Asia after the Yangtze and Yellow rivers) is Pakistan's lifeblood. Our interest is primarily in the north of the country where the great ranges of the Hindu Kush and the Karakoram, contain the finest concentration of high mountains in the world. The isolation of the Northern Areas and Chitral, the exciting access afforded by the Karakoram Highway and jeep roads, the magnificent mountain scenery and challenging walking, makes this an exciting place to trek. Our trekking holidays in Pakistan have a common thread - the Karakoram Highway, a stupendous achievement of civil engineering as it winds its way through the northern mountains along the natural pathway of the mighty Indus River. On one side the Hindu Kush range, scene of the dramatic toings and froings associated with the 19th century 'age of Empire', and the location of our 'short walk in the Hindu Kush' trip. On the other side, the incomparable Himalayan giants of the Karakoram; K2; Broad Peak; Masherbrum; Nanga Parbat and many more. Here the most challenging trek goes the very hub of the range, at Concordia.
